What started as two friends catering office lunches and private events around New York City quickly evolved into something much bigger.  This is the story of how we went migrating from kitchen to kitchen to feeding the city as The Migrant Kitchen.

Founded by Nasser Jaber and Daniel Dorado in October 2019, The Migrant Kitchen was born out of a shared passion for pushing boundaries and for creating delicious, accessible food.

Nasser Jaber

Originally from Ramallah, Palestine, Nasser Jaber came to the United States to study. Working at restaurants to pay his way, Nas discovered that his true passion was food. His talents would take him from waiting tables to training under some of the best chefs in New York City. Inspired by the diverse stories of America’s immigrant communities, Nas developed his acclaimed project Displaced Kitchens. Passionate about culinary diplomacy, Nas has worked with the U.S. government in Turkey and Sweden to provide real solutions to the refugee crisis through food hospitality and farming.

Dan Dorado

Born in Los Angeles to parents from Mexico, Daniel Dorado’s love of cooking can be traced back to his earliest years, working as a line cook alongside his older brother and Sunday dinners cooked by his abuelita. During college, Dan worked in restaurants and also realized that his love of food was much bigger than his love of communications, so he decided to pursue cooking full-time. He moved to NYC and eventually landed the position of Head Chef at Ilili. There, he was introduced to Middle Eastern spices and techniques, completely transforming the way he cooks and creates dishes.
